The Technical Services (TC) bargaining team focused their time on compensation during the most recent round of bargaining with Treasury Board, November 8–10, 2021.

With the negotiating team in place, dates are now set for bargaining, and demands will be finalized by late December. PSAC-UTE is confirmed to begin negotiations with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) during the week of January 11, 2022.

The Education and Library Science (EB) bargaining team focused on improving education leave and career development opportunities for members during talks with  Treasury Board, November 8-10, 2021.

The Operational Services (SV) team pushed for several improvements to health and safety and working conditions for ship’s crew and lightkeepers during talks with Treasury Board on October 26-28.

PSAC will soon begin negotiations for an update to the Public Service Dental Plan, which provides benefits to PSAC members working in the federal public service, and we need to hear from you about what changes you would like to see. These negotiations are separate from regular collective bargaining, and negotiations for the Public Service Health Care plan, which are both ongoing.

Following the last round of negotiations, the TC bargaining team negotiated an arbitration process that would allow for members in the EG classification group to continue the push for pay parity with their counterparts at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). EGs in the TC group are currently paid 3.3% less than EGs at CFIA.

The Statistics Survey Operations (SSO) bargaining team made progress on hours of work for SSO members despite frustrating stalling tactics by the employer during negotiations on October 26-27, 2021.

PSAC won a landmark pay equity victory for federal public service workers in 1999 that paved the way for more than 230,000 workers – mainly in women-dominated positions – to receive retroactive salary adjustments totaling over $3.6 billion. Members also secured ongoing pay adjustments to provide equal pay for work of equal value. Despite this historic victory, women today still do not receive equal pay for work of equal value. The new federal Pay Equity Act is meant to address this ongoing inequity, and union members play a vital role in this process.

PSAC and the Canada Employment and Immigration Union are dismayed by the lack of action to address racism and discrimination within Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
