Living through the pandemic radically changed the way Canadians live and work. Everyone had their working life turned upside down. Remote work has become a part of everyday life for many Canadians, including PSAC members.    Our employer must accept that our working lives have changed for good, and that remote work – whether a full time or hybrid system – makes sense for so many reasons.

As one of Canada’s largest unions, PSAC respects everyone’s right to peacefully protest, but as the truck convoy protests take the nation’s capital hostage for a second week, it’s clearly time for the federal, provincial and city governments to step in and protect the public’s safety.

Nearly 75 per cent of PSAC members have been working remotely since the pandemic started, and more than 80 per cent want to continue having flexible work arrangements when the pandemic ends. What will our new normal look like? A lot depends on this round of bargaining with Treasury Board.

This is a time to reflect on the strength and resiliency of people of African and Caribbean descent in Canada, while committing to fight against systemic discrimination and racism in our communities.

PSAC is gearing up to mobilize TC members and put pressure on Treasury Board after they refused to respond to the TC team’s wage proposals at the table January 24-27. The team presented their comprehensive wage proposals in November – three months ago – but Treasury Board continues to stall negotiations by coming to the table completely empty-handed.
