Delegates to PSAC’s National Triennial Convention took to the streets today to send a clear message: health care is a priority issue in the coming federal election, and a public service worth protecting. They were joined by the National Federation of Nurses Union and Service Employees International Union – Health Care. Together with PSAC, these three national unions represent over 300,000 health care workers.

This week, PSAC joins 15 federal public service unions at the National Joint Council (NJC) in sending letters to NDP leader Jagmeet Singh and President of the Treasury Board Anita Anand to share our outrage with the federal government’s decision in-office mandate. The updated policy requires all federal public service workers in the core public administration and in separate agencies to work on-site a minimum of three days per week.

Today marks the 20th anniversary of the release of the Pay Equity Task Force’s report ‘Pay Equity: A new approach to a fundamental right’, also known as the Bilson Report. The task force, mandated by the Government of Canada, made a series of recommendations to advance pay equity in the federally regulated sector.

April 24, 2024, marks 11 years since the collapse of the Rana Plaza garment factory in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This terrible and avoidable tragedy killed more than 1,134 workers and injured more than 2,600, unveiling the horrific conditions of work for millions of workers in an unregulated industry, not only in Bangladesh but in dozens of other countries as well.

PSAC is pleased to announce that a settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit involving employees who were required to pay higher transfer amounts when transferring their pensionable service time from the Ontario public service into the Federal public service pension plan. This class action was supported from the outset by PSAC.

As mandated by the Pay Equity Act employers are legally required to work with unions to develop pay equity plans. PSAC pays special attention to employment data to ensure our members’ human rights are respected, and at later stages of this process, will ensure that the realities and nuances of members’ jobs are taken into consideration to ensure that the pay equity analysis is based on complete and accurate information.
