As we gather to commemorate May Day, we reflect on the significant contributions and dedication of workers in Canada and around the world. This is a powerful celebration of workers’ rights and hard-fought battles by the labour movement, but also a time to recognize the need to continue the fight for justice, equity and safe and healthy workplaces.

En ce Mois du patrimoine juif, soulignons l’histoire fascinante, la riche culture et les contributions exceptionnelles des Canadiennes et Canadiens d’origine juive au mouvement syndical et au pays. Ces personnes ont toujours lutté ardemment pour les droits et la justice en milieu de travail, et nous leur devons une fière chandelle pour les protections dont nous bénéficions aujourd’hui.

Jewish Heritage Month: Celebrating Jewish history and amplifying members’ voices

May is Jewish Heritage Month, an opportunity to celebrate the vibrant history, culture, and outstanding contributions of Jewish Canadians in the labour movement and society. Jewish Canadians have been at the forefront of the fight for workplace rights and justice, helping to secure many of the protections we benefit from today.

Mois du patrimoine asiatique : la parole à nos membres!

Le Mois du patrimoine asiatique est l’occasion de rendre hommage aux histoires, aux cultures et aux contributions des communautés asiatiques du Canada. Officiellement reconnu en 2002, ce mois nous invite à célébrer les réalisations des personnes d’origine asiatique et à réfléchir aux difficultés qu’elles continuent d’affronter, comme la discrimination et la sous-représentation dans les postes de direction.

Asian Heritage Month is an opportunity to honour the diverse histories, cultures and contributions of Asian communities across Canada. Officially recognized in 2002, this month invites us to celebrate the achievements of people of Asian descent and reflect on the challenges they continue to face – from discrimination to underrepresentation in leadership roles.

Jour de deuil national : aucun emploi ne vaut une vie

Le 28 avril, Jour de deuil national, nous rendons hommage aux personnes décédées ou blessées au travail et à celles qui sont atteintes d’une maladie professionnelle. Cette année, l’AFPC et les syndicats du pays demandent aux gouvernements et aux employeurs d’en faire plus pour protéger les travailleuses et les travailleurs des dangers, en particulier de ceux qu’on ne voit pas nécessairement.

Day of Mourning: No job is worth a life

On April 28, Canada marks the National Day of Mourning to remember workers who have been hurt, made sick, or lost their lives because of their jobs. This year, PSAC and Canada’s unions are calling on governments and employers to do more to protect workers –especially from dangers we can’t always see.

Rana Plaza : 12 années de lutte pour tenir les entreprises responsables

Depuis l’effondrement, en 2013, de l’usine de la Rana Plaza au Bangladesh, les syndicats du Canada marquent le tragique anniversaire du 24 avril en attirant l’attention sur les conditions de travail, qui demeurent inacceptables, des personnes travaillant dans le secteur du prêt-à-porter du Bangladesh.

Rana Plaza: 12 years of fighting for corporate accountability

Since 2013, when the Rana Plaza factory collapsed in Bangladesh, Canada’s unions have marked the tragic April 24th anniversary by bringing attention to the ongoing unacceptable working conditions of Bangladeshi workers in the ready-made garment industry. 

The Rana Plaza industrial disaster, which killed 1,134 workers and injured thousands more, shone a spotlight on the lack of accountability of transnational corporations in providing safe and decent conditions for workers in source factories across their global supply chains.
