Just two years ago, members came together from across the country for a monumental first bargaining conference of the Staff of the Non-Public Funds. You established priorities and outlined the demands that you wanted to be front and centre at the bargaining table to improve your wages and working conditions.
Many of you need to work second jobs because the salaries you are receiving with NPF can’t keep up with the cost of living, the pressures of inflation, and above all, the real costs of caring for your families.
So, you took charge of this round of bargaining, from mobilizing on bases across the country to launching a national day of action. You made it clear that you are not willing to accept substandard wages and disrespect from the employer. You sent letters to the Chief of the Defense Staff and Minister of National Defence, and pushed for respect at the bargaining table.
Members like Robin Delve, Karine Lebel, Kristopher Klith, and Cathy O'Kane, shared their stories so that the question of who NPF workers are, and what they do, would be undeniable.
Despite all this, the employer still hasn’t come to the table with a fair wage offer that meets the rising cost of living, or a national pay grid that will ensure you get equal pay for equal work.
You provided the mandate to take job action to get the collective agreement you deserve, and that’s exactly what we will do.
Strike action will begin at Bagotville, Kingston, Montreal St-Jean, Ottawa, Petawawa, and Valcartier starting on Monday, January 15, if an agreement is not reached at the table this week.
Please check our FAQ for NPF members regularly for updates. If you have other questions, please contact your regional office and watch for picket line information that will be posted January 14 on the PSAC national NPF website.
There are over 225,000 PSAC members from coast to coast to coast who are behind you.
Together, we will win this fight and secure a better future.
