This Black History Month, PSAC honours the leadership, resilience and organizing power of Black workers who have shaped Canada’s labour movement and continue to lead the fight for justice today. This year, PSAC’s theme is “Black Voices: Bold Futures – From Legacy to Leadership.” This is a call to recognize the legacy of resistance that has shaped our unions and to center the voices that are charting a bold path forward.
On January 29, we mark the National Day of Remembrance of the Québec City Mosque Attack and Action Against Islamophobia. PSAC remembers the six men who were killed in a horrific Islamophobic attack at the Québec City Islamic Cultural Centre: Azzedine Soufiane, Mamadou Tanou Barry, Khaled Belkacemi, Aboubaker Thabti, Ibrahima Barry, and Abdelkrim Hassane. Five others were seriously injured, and countless lives have forever changed.
PSAC congratulates the winners of this year’s scholarship awards, highlighting a new generation of labour activists dedicated to advancing the movement.
January 27 is International Holocaust Remembrance Day, marking 81 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration and extermination camp. It is a day to remember the millions of people murdered during the Holocaust and to honour the survivors whose lives and voices carry this history forward.
