Treasury Board needs to return to the table with a better mandate

Recent public communications from Treasury Board have implied an imminent return to the bargaining table. While there have been some exploratory conversations with the employer and representatives of the Federal Public Sector Labour Relations and Employment Board (FPSLREB) about logistics in the event of a possible return to the bargaining table, there is no confirmed agreement to do so. PSAC agrees that in the event of a return to the bargaining table, a third-party mediator would be advisable.

We're always ready to bargain, but the employer needs to commit to return to the table with a better mandate that will address our key issues, including fair wages, work-life balance, secure jobs, and more inclusive workplaces. They haven’t done that.

There’s no doubt the best way to reach a fair contract is at the table. But it’s becoming clearer every day — reaching a fair agreement with this government is going to take a strong strike mandate from our members. Workers can’t wait.
