Canada Post: Bargaining update

The bargaining team commenced negotiations with the Canada Post Corporation this week. Our team tabled a set of initial non-monetary proposals while the Employer bargaining team tabled opening remarks and a list of issues / articles that the employer intends to table proposals on during this round of negotiations.

During negotiations, our bargaining team reiterated our position that the Employer’s plan to unilaterally implement a revised hybrid work policy as of October 15 is a violation of section 50 (b) of the Canada Labour Code and in breach of sections 50 (a) (i) (duty to bargain in good faith). Based on our mandate from the membership, a comprehensive proposal on remote / hybrid work was tabled in hopes that it would form the basis of our discussions. We also appealed to the Employer to delay the implementation of the new policy until the proposal presented was considered. Unfortunately, the Employer has refused to do so. At this point, we are considering our legal options, including filing formal complaints with the Canada Industrial Relations Board.

The union will be meeting again with the Employer to resume negotiations on October 16-18 and November 19-21, 2024.
