Bank of Canada breaks the law a second time, using notorious union-busting company as scabs

For a second time, the Board has ruled the Bank of Canada broke the law and ordered the Bank to stop using scabs. This time, not only did the Bank continue using scabs, they hired a notorious anti-union security company, Pinkertons, to “replace” striking Bank of Canada workers.

On July 8, the Board found the Bank violated the Canada Labour Code by using contracted Garda workers to do the work of our striking members. The Board ordered the Bank of Canada to stop using these “replacement workers” and gave them 48 hours to comply.

The Bank ignored the Board’s ruling and continued to use scabs. PSAC then filed another unfair labour practice complaint on July 14.

Today, the CIRB found the Bank of Canada has again violated the Canada Labour Code and ordered the Bank to stop using Pinkerton scabs within 48 hours.

Workers continue to fight for a fair deal while also demanding respect for their right to strike. The 42 members at the Bank's Ottawa office and 7 members at the Montreal office have been on strike for four weeks after the Bank locked out members in Montreal.

PSAC continues to call on the Bank to abide by the ruling, stop using scabs, and come back to the table to negotiate a fair deal.
