For PSAC members in the core public service
Facing potential job loss is stressful, but you don’t have to navigate it alone. Alternation is one of the most powerful tools we’ve negotiated to protect jobs, reduce involuntary layoffs, and provide members with options.
This password-protected site was created for PSAC members to connect opting or surplus members who want to remain employed in the public service with non-affected members who are ready to leave the public service voluntarily.
While PSAC created this platform to help connect members, the final decision about whether your alternation is accepted rests with management. Learn more about the process in our frequently asked questions.
Keep in mind: Alternation cannot occur between employees in the core public service and separate agencies. In other words, employees who alternate must have the same employer (e.g., Treasury Board, CRA, Parks or CFIA).
How it works
-
Register to confirm your PSAC membership. If your PSAC ID or your name and email match our records, your profile will be linked automatically to your member profile with PSAC.
-
Complete your profile. Create a listing indicating whether you:
-
have received a surplus/opting letter and want to remain employed, or
-
are not affected but want to alternate out.
-
-
Browse listings. Search other members’ profiles and reach out directly by email to discuss a possible alternation match.
-
Grow the network. Encourage colleagues to sign up if they’re affected or considering leaving. The more members who register, the more opportunities there are.
