In a significant victory, PSAC has closed the pay gap between Engineering and Scientific Support (EG) members in the Technical Services (TC) group and EGs at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) once and for all after a successful arbitration ruling on January 6, 2022. After implementation, the new maximum rate for EGs will be 3.3% higher.
PSAC is pleased EG members will be receiving this well-deserved pay parity victory that closes the gap with members doing similar work in the federal public service.
The TC group covers nearly 10,700 members, with the EG classification making up more than 60 per cent of its members. The pay increase will be phased in over the next two years, at which point full pay parity will be reached with CFIA members.
-
On June 22, 2022, a new step worth 1.5 per cent more than the current top step will be created at the top of all EG levels. All EGs who have been at their maximum rate for at least 12 months will be bumped up to this new step on that date.
-
On June 22, 2023, this new step will be raised by an additional 1.8 per cent.

These new rates will be subject to any further gains made in the current round of negotiations which are underway now with Treasury Board. PSAC will be seeking regular annual economic increases for EGs and for all TC members, along with allowances for specific groups.
This arbitration decision has no impact on what PSAC is seeking at the table in this round of bargaining.
