Union of National Employees removed from trusteeship, elects first Black women to national leadership

PSAC’s National Board of Directors has voted to remove the Union of National Employees (UNE) from trusteeship following the election of its new executive, led by National President Alisha Campbell, the first Black woman to lead a PSAC component union.

The NBoD voted to transition UNE from trusteeship to administration, and will review the administration of UNE at their next meeting in February 2024. The newly elected UNE leadership will immediately assume their responsibilities, work with the Administrators, and continue to receive guidance and resources from the PSAC National Office.

Campbell, a Parks Canada member, was elected at UNE’s National Triennial Convention held August 21-25 in Toronto alongside National Executive Vice-President Hayley Millington from Employment and Social Development Canada. Together, they form PSAC’s first ever national component executive led by Black women.

“This is the dawn of a new era for UNE members and the labour movement at large,” said Campbell. “The future is bright, and our members led the charge.”
