Our TC bargaining team continues to strongly advocate for our fishery, wildlife and environmental enforcement officers, and the critical work they perform.
We have tabled proposals that would deliver direct, meaningful improvements for enforcement officers in the TC group.
Key priorities at the table
Fair classification and wage parity
The current TC classification system does not reflect the specialized and complex nature of enforcement work – the General Technical (GT) classification functions as a catch-all and fails to accurately represent these roles.
To address this, we proposed a new, dedicated wage grid for GT enforcement officers. The proposal would integrate existing allowances and achieving wage parity with comparable federal law enforcement groups, including Border Services (FB).
Equitable Retirement
We have also tabled pension reform proposals to improve retirement options for enforcement officers, recognizing the demanding nature of this work over the course of a career. The proposal would allow TC enforcement officers to retire after 25 years of service without penalty.
Plain clothes allowance
We proposed that enforcement officers who are required to conduct surveillance and investigative work in plain clothes receive reimbursement for these necessary expenses.
Paid meal allowance
Paid meal periods or allowances are standard across Canadian law enforcement, including federal groups such as the RCMP, Border Services, and Correctional Services (CX), as well as many provincial, and municipal police services. The proposal introduces a pensionable meal allowance to bring TC enforcement officers in line with these established standards.
Where things stand
To date, Treasury Board has not agreed to any of these reasonable demands and has yet to engage meaningfully on key issues that directly impact enforcement officers.
Our bargaining team has been clear: any agreement must deliver real improvements and not leave enforcement officers behind.
What comes next
We are scheduled to meet with the employer again on April 29-30 and will continue to share updates as negotiations progress.
