The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) is proud to announce a new affiliation agreement with the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions (CFNU) that strengthens support for Northern nurses. 

Through this agreement, more than 1,300 PSAC-represented frontline nurses in the territories are now affiliated with CFNU, joining a national network of unionized nurses across Canada. This affiliation creates new opportunities to collaborate on the issues that matter most to Northern nurses while ensuring PSAC continues to represent its members. 

"I am proud to welcome Northern nurses into the largest movement of unionized nurses across North America," said Linda Silas, President of the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions. “From the difficulties accessing care in rural and remote communities to the critical need for safe staffing mandates, our national solidarity makes us more powerful as we work toward the solutions that nurses in the North and across Canada need. Together, nurses are a powerful force.” 

Nurses play an important role in delivering safe, accessible, and high-quality public health care, particularly in rural, remote, and Northern communities. Through this partnership, PSAC and CFNU will strengthen advocacy for priorities including safe staffing, healthy workplaces, and a strong public health care system. 

"This affiliation reflects the strength of unions working together to support the interests of workers," said Sharon DeSousa, PSAC national president. "PSAC’s nurses in the North will now have an even stronger voice on the issues that matter most to them and the communities they serve." 

The affiliation with CFNU does not change PSAC's role as the bargaining agent for these members. Instead, it strengthens how our organizations work together to support northern nurses and advocate for their priorities.
