Public Interest Commission (PIC) hearings for Staff of the Non-Public Funds (NPF) members in Ottawa, Kingston, Bagotville, Montreal-St. Jean, Valcartier, and Petawawa have concluded. We’ve received the first report from the Petawawa PIC, which supports our key bargaining demand: a national pay grid for NPF members across the country is long overdue.
PIC report is a step in the right direction
Once Public Interest Commission hearings are complete, a report is released that takes into account both the union and employer positions. The report includes recommendations intended to move the bargaining process along.
Calling for ‘a process to harmonize wage rates,’ the report from Petawawa reflects our fight for a national pay grid to ensure equal pay for equal work across the country.
While this is a step in the right direction, impasses in negotiations at Valcartier, Kingston, Petawawa, Montreal-St. Jean, Bagotville, and Ottawa – in addition to inadequate wage offers on the table – add urgency to put pressure on this employer to reach a fair contract.
Fighting for our members
PSAC brought our fight for fair wages directly to the Minister of Defence, Bill Blair, in a recent meeting with PSAC and UNDE’s elected leadership to ensure that the issues facing members are front and centre for this government to step up and take action.
Nearly 800 letters have been sent from NPF members and supporters to tell Minister Blair, Wayne Eyre, the Chief of the Defence Staff, and Ian Poulter, CEO of the Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services, to step up and ensure NPF workers have fair wages across the country. Strike votes and next steps
We are waiting for reports from the Public Interest Commissions for Ottawa, Kingston, Bagotville, Montreal-St. Jean and Valcartier bargaining units, and we will update members as soon as we learn more. Over the coming weeks, we will be conducting strike vote sessions for NPF members to make sure your voices are heard.
