Sign up today for PSAC’s new grievance courses

Our PSAC education team is excited to offer two new ways of learning about grievances and grievance handling.

Grievances: An Overview

Grievances: An Overview is a new online course that offers a summary of what grievances are and the process we use to provide representation to members. Participants will examine the various types of grievances as well as the legal framework that governs the grievance procedure. Members will also learn how to assist their colleagues with workplace issues and how to determine when something is grievable or when another problem-solving approach is appropriate.

This course is open to all PSAC members and is completed on members’ own time at their own pace. There are no prerequisite courses and participants do not need any previous knowledge or experience in the subject. The knowledge and skills participants gain will help them take on a larger role in our union and further their education.

Virtual Grievance Handling

The in-person grievance handling course has now been adapted for virtual delivery. Virtual Grievance Handling provides basic knowledge and skills to effectively process grievances at the initial stages of the procedure. Participants learn how to listen to, advise and interview members. Using case-studies, participants then write a grievance, build a case, frame arguments and practice representing a member in a grievance hearing. This virtual course is delivered in six modules using Zoom. Please visit your region’s education page to find a course offering in your area.
