RCMP employees must be kept off Phoenix

The federal government must halt its plan to move 4000 RCMP civilian members from their stable and well-functioning pay system over to the disastrous Phoenix pay system.

The Phoenix pay system is far from being stabilized. There is still a backlog of over 200,000 Phoenix cases to resolve and new problems being created for staff every single day. Three in four federal public service workers recently reported experiencing pay problems in the last year alone.

It would be irresponsible and cruel for the Government to force more workers onto Phoenix. More importantly perhaps, it’s completely unnecessary. RCMP civilian members currently have a functioning system that they can rely on.

PSAC National President Chris Aylward stated, “We are urging the government in the strongest terms possible to immediately halt the transfer of RCMP employee to any pay system that isn’t stable, especially a system like Phoenix that continues to hurt thousands of Canadians every day.”

The government is planning to transfer workers to Phoenix as soon as May 2020. Among those 4000 workers, approximately 1000 will join PSAC once deeming takes place.
