PSAC warns that people across Canada will bear the brunt of cuts at Canada Revenue Agency

534 PSAC-UTE members received notice yesterday that their positions could be cut.

These cuts mean that families, seniors, students, and small businesses looking for support will instead be stuck with longer wait times, delays to accessing vital resources, and frustrating call loops with chatbots.

“Workers at CRA are already overworked and understaffed,” said Sharon DeSousa, PSAC national president. “Cutting more jobs at CRA isn’t how you improve service – it's how you increase delays and frustrations of people across Canada when they’re trying to access services.”

When you cut the job, you cut the service. Cuts to jobs at CRA mean that workers will have fewer resources and less time to support people, all while workers are saddled with heavier workloads and more pressure to rush through support calls.

“It’s increasingly clear that our members bear the brunt of cutbacks,” said Adam Jackson, UTE national president. “While CRA advertises external job competitions, 534 of our members face uncertainty about their jobs and their families’ future. We will fight to keep them employed.”

This week's announcement will bring the total number of PSAC members that have received workforce adjustment notices to over 18,000. Over 1,400 of these are workers at Canada Revenue Agency.

PSAC continues to call on the federal government to stop the reckless cuts and invest in the public services people across Canada rely on.

If you’ve received a workforce adjustment notice, PSAC has resources to support you.
