PSAC mourns two first responders

It is with heavy hearts that our union mourns the loss of two PSAC members who recently lost their lives. Our thoughts go out to these members' families, co-workers, and communities.

Adam Yeadon, a wildland firefighter and member of the Union of Northern Workers Local X0013, died while battling a wildfire near Fort Liard in the Northwest Territories. Adam was a proud member of the Acho Dene Koe First Nation.

Arjanan Sivasathiyarajah, a paramedic working for the Weeneebayko Area Health Authority and member of Directly Chartered Local 00603, drowned in a boating accident in Northern Ontario while making a supply run to the community of Fort Albany First Nation.

First responders play a critical role in safeguarding lives and communities. Unfortunately, incidents like these remind us how dangerous this work can be.

“We are incredibly saddened to hear of the passing of these two brave members,” said PSAC National President Chris Aylward. “Thousands of PSAC members like Adam and Arjanan put their lives at risk while serving and protecting Canadians. We are proud of the work our members do and we are grateful for the courage they show every day.”

PSAC is committed to making occupational health and safety the highest priority in all our worksites. We will ensure that investigations into both these incidents is thorough and complete to help prevent any further tragedies.

We extend our deepest condolences to Adam and Arjanan's families and loved ones during this difficult time.
