The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) has launched “For You, Canada”, a national campaign calling on Canadians to vote for a government that protects the critical public services we all rely on.
The campaign from Canada’s largest federal public service union will reach people in every corner of the country on their social media feeds, the radio stations they listen to, and through billboards in their communities across the country.
"Public service workers are the backbone of Canada. When the world feels uncertain – with reckless tariffs putting our jobs at risk and our very sovereignty under attack – you can count on Canada’s public service to be there when people need them most,” said Sharon DeSousa, PSAC National President. “Because strong public services aren’t a luxury; they’re a lifeline.”
Cuts to public services threaten the essential programs and benefits people depend on and harm our communities. It’s common sense that reducing the workforce while the population and demands for service continue to grow will only lead to delays, inefficiencies and increased costs.
“Public services are Canada’s safety net in times of crisis, whether it’s a pandemic, a natural disaster, or economic uncertainty,” said DeSousa. “Let’s be clear: Reckless cuts to public services do not save money; they weaken Canada when we need to show strength, increase wait times for critical programs and jeopardize public safety.”
PSAC’s 170,000 federal public services workers ensure new mothers receive their maternity benefits on time, that the food on your table is safe to eat, that our communities are protected when disaster strikes. They deliver employment insurance when you’re out of work, they process your passport and make sure our vulnerable seniors receive CPP and Old Age Security payments. They keep our borders secure, patrol our coastal waters and battle devastating wildfires.
They are here for you.
“This federal election, we are urging Canadians to vote to support workers, families and seniors. For a safe food supply. For secure borders. For financial support when you need it most, vote for public services,” said DeSousa.
“Weakening our social safety net risks the well-being of everyone in Canada. We have to stay united and protect the services that keep our communities safe and strong.”
