PSAC hosts DCL roundtable; focuses on growth

PSAC members from across the country came together for the Directly Chartered Local (DCL) roundtable in December 2024, focusing on the key issues that matter most to workers.

PSAC represents 34,000 DCL workers from 84 locals, ranging from post-secondary education workers, private employers, municipal governments, and not-for-profit organizations. It is our union’s fastest growing sector. Many of those members are precarious workers with little job security, irregular hours and have few benefits.

Roundtable participants discussed bargaining issues, grievances, common goals and strategies for strengthening locals and boosting member participation.

Leaders from DCLs also celebrated their achievements and discussed the mandate of the newly created National DCL Committee established at the last PSAC National Triennial Convention.

National DCL Committee

The newly formed National DCL Committee will be composed of two DCL representatives per region – except for the North, as there are no DCLs in that region. As part of their mandate, the committee will attend meetings with PSAC’s National Board of Directors (NBoD) and raise their concerns directly, building more collaboration and strengthening the relationship between DCL members and PSAC’s governing body.

The committee was created to be a give greater voice to DCLs to advocate for issues that impact them.

Call Centre Roundtable

PSAC has scheduled a series of roundtable meetings with members working in various sectors. The next session will take place January 22-23 in Ottawa with call centre workers.

Background:

At the 2024 PSAC National Triennial Convention delegates passed a resolution (24/CS-016A – DCL Committee with Representation on the NBOD) which endorsed the creation of a National DCL Committee. This Committee will provide a forum by which DCLs can come together and work to provide solutions to the unique challenges they face.
