PSAC and UPCE fighting for the future of Canada Post

The Industrial Inquiry Commission (IIC) was established following the bargaining dispute between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW). As the Union of Postal Communications Employees (UPCE), a component of PSAC, represents many Canada Post workers and being an important stakeholder in the future of the corporation, we have submitted recommendations to the Commission.

As one of Canada’s largest unions, PSAC is committed to securing a bright future for Canada Post. We want to see a modern Canada Post that can adapt to the changing demands of a modern world.

Our members are not just workers—they are the lifeblood of a national service that connects millions of Canadians every day. These engineering, finance, HR, logistics, operations and administrative professionals to name a few, ensure mail delivery is possible. Their expertise keeps the system running efficiently.

The Canada Post Corporation's challenges are real, but the solution isn’t cutting services or privatization. People across the country rely on Canada Post. Weakening the postal network would abandon the public, while handing more power to private delivery giants. History has shown that service cuts to public postal services leads to a deterioration of service quality and working conditions.

A Better Path Forward

PSAC has brought forward recommendations to the IIC:

  • a full and fair review of Canada Post’s future before any drastic changes are made;
  • protection of the Universal Service Obligation, keeping postal services equitable;
  • a plan to strengthen Canada Post, not shrink it.
  • a reduction in outsourcing and more investment in internal expertise.
  • fair bargaining and labour relations practices that respect all postal workers.

PSAC is proud to stand up for workers, for public services, and for a postal system that works for all. We will continue to fight for a future where Canada Post thrives—not just for today’s workers, but for future generations who rely on a strong, public postal service.

Our vision for the future of Canada Post is of a renewed public service, offering new services in a rapidly changing communications landscape - where Canada Post is financially self-sustaining, where our members continually innovate, and where our members receive decent wages and benefits.
