International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination: PSAC's Initiatives

Today, we mark the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, a day that commemorates the tragic Sharpeville Massacre of March 21, 1960, in South Africa. This event galvanized international efforts to combat racism, and it serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing struggle against racial discrimination worldwide.

PSAC recognizes the importance of this day and reaffirms its commitment to eradicating racism in all its forms. Our union continues our work towards creating a truly anti-racist union by addressing underrepresentation in leadership roles and promoting member education, better representation, and political action.

Recognizing Racism in the Workplace

As part of our ongoing efforts to educate and engage members, PSAC is launching a quiz designed to help members identify and understand instances of racism that may occur at work. It covers critical topics such as systemic racism, institutional racism, racial microaggressions, and workplace tokenism.

Members are encouraged to test their knowledge. PSAC will share the results of the quiz to build engagement around these issues and help foster a more inclusive work environment for all workers.

 Additional Learning

PSAC offers other resources for members who want to learn more:
