Purpose of position: 

Under the general supervision of the IT/IM Network Operations Supervisor, the Technical Lead Network Operations is responsible to provide technical leadership in the day-to day operations related to network infrastructure, server administration, application deployments and testing in support of the PSAC’s large, complex and diverse computing environment, both on premises in the PSAC data centre and in the cloud.

 

Qualifications: 

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or a relevant discipline or a combination of education and technical experience in computer field with Microsoft Certified Solution Associate (MCSA), Microsoft Certified Solution Expert (MCSE) certification or in process.
  • Minimum six years extensive working experience administering and supporting Microsoft Windows servers and directory services in a large enterprise network environment.
  • In-depth working experience managing and supporting VMware virtual environments.
  • In-depth working experience working with networking equipment and network management tools.
  • In-depth working experience in network analysis, problem troubleshooting and resolution.
  • Working experience setting up and administering VLANs and VPNs is a definite asset.
  • Working experience administering backup and restore processes using Symantec Backup Exec is a definite asset.
  • Working experience managing virus protection at the enterprise level using Symantec Anti-virus software is a definite asset.

 

Knowledge:

  • Windows Network administration or engineering knowledge is required and must be proven by way of certification or adequate proof of testing.
  • In-depth working knowledge of network protocols and connectivity technologies.
  • In-depth working knowledge of NAS and SANs. Working knowledge of NetApp SAN is a definite asset.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems and Microsoft Office.
  • ITIL Awareness is an asset, in particular change and incident management processes.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with PC and Server hardware configurations and SCSI and RAID technologies is an asset.
  • Linux Administration knowledge is an asset.

 

Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and/or French including commitment to maintaining systems documentation.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent client service through commitment to customer / client satisfaction.
  • Ability to conduct scientific information gathering, analysis of facts, and create action plans to resolve complex problems.
  • Ability to analyze, assess and provide recommendations on various informatics related proposals.
  • Ability to learn quickly and remain current on emerging information technology trends.
