Pay equity is a fundamental human right. Despite some progress, women continue to be paid less than men for equivalent work. The federal Pay Equity Act is intended to address this issue.
With implementation beginning in the fall of 2021, the Act required all federally regulated employers to partner with unions to implement pay equity plans within three years, with the goal of closing systemic pay discrimination gaps. As the fall of 2024 approaches, getting involved in your local process to advance equity for all is even more important for PSAC members.
