NPF employees at CFB Valcartier begin hearing at Public Interest Commission

The bargaining team representing PSAC members working for the Non-Public Funds (NPF) at CFB Valcartier will stand before a hearing with the Public Interest Commission (PIC) today. Our union will present our position on outstanding issues at bargaining. The employer will have the opportunity to do the same.

The pay gap and the employer’s use of private agencies are some of the top issues that we’ll raise at the hearing. Workers’ wages are inconsistent across bases, with positions getting paid much less in one base than the same positions in another base. They also get paid less than the core federal public service for the same jobs. The employer also continues to use agencies for work that can be done by unionized workers, a practice which ultimately ends up costing more for the employer.

The two parties reached impasse on May 10, 2019 after a total of 14 days of negotiations. The workers have been without a collective agreement since June 2018.
