Purpose of position: 

Under the general supervision of the Coordinator, Communications, Political Action and Campaigns of the Membership Programs Branch, the Digital Media Communications Officer is responsible for the development and the implementation of digital communications strategies to communicate PSAC policies and positions to members, the general public and other target audiences.

Qualifications: 

 

Education:

  • This position requires a post secondary diploma in communications or a related field.

Experience:

  • OR a minimum of seven years related experience;
  •  Prior experience working with a labour or political organization will be considered;
  • Proven track record in using the Drupal content management system, mass email tools such as Mailchimp and data analytics tools such as Google Analytics.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of search engine optimization, user experience (UX) best practices, and website content strategy;

 

  • A very good knowledge of digital media technology including software and hardware associated with deploying web properties;
  • Website graphic design, frontend web development and video production skills are an asset.
  • Knowledge of issues affecting the union movement and PSAC members;
  • Knowledge of government decision making and of the Canadian political system.

 

 

Abilities:

  • Strong, sharp and personable writing style and excellent verbal communications skills;
  • Ability to develop, implement and test digital communication strategies;
  • Ability to conceptualize and design a variety of communication materials specifically for digital channels;
  • Ability to develop content strategy and provide advice on website information architecture to improve website user experience;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate both orally and in writing in French and English.
