For the first time, PSAC enforcement officers came together at a national roundtable to discuss important issues on February 3-4, 2026.
PSAC represents over 10,000 enforcement workers such as border officers, correctional officers, fisheries officers, Indigenous police service officers, and other public safety personnel. These members came together for training, to develop cross-sector collective bargaining strategies, and to find solutions to common work problems.
“Enforcement workers play a critical role in keeping our country and its people safe, often facing challenging and dangerous situations,” said Sharon DeSousa, PSAC national president. “They deserve workplaces that support their training, safety and mental health.”
Although their working conditions vary depending on where they work, they share many of the same challenges and experiences. Attendees identified several urgent workplace issues, including lack of training, inadequate personal protective equipment (PPE), insufficient psychological health support, and ongoing health and safety concerns.
These members also shared a strong sense of pride in their work. They discussed how proud they were of being able to help in times of crisis, to keep people safe, and to safeguard our country. Following the roundtable, this group will continue to collaborate and develop strategies to improve working conditions for enforcement officers across Canada.
