PSAC is donating $100,000 to support provincial public sector workers in Quebec during their strike for fair working conditions.
“These workers form the backbone of our society. They teach our children and take care of everyone. They deserve our wholehearted sympathy and respect,” said PSAC-Quebec Executive Vice-President Yvon Barrière. “We hope this show of union solidarity will help those who are making this sacrifice to secure decent conditions.”
PSAC is supporting the Front commun and Fédération autonome de l’enseignement workers, most of them women, who are taking on the government right before the holidays. This strike is crucial to ensure workers can make ends meet, and we hope this donation will help families weather the rough period they’re going through right now.
Without a strike fund, many workers are out of pocket while they’re on the picket line. That’s why PSAC and other unions are coming together to support.
“Workers across Quebec joined us on the picket lines this year during our union’s largest national strike,” said PSAC National President Chris Aylward. “Now it’s our turn to unite and show our solidarity.”
PSAC is an FTQ affiliate that represents more than 230,000 workers in every province and territory in Canada and in locations around the world. Our members work for federal government departments and agencies, Crown corporations, universities, casinos, community services agencies, Indigenous communities, airports, and the security sector among others.
