PSAC calls on new Liberal government to support Canada’s vital public services

The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) calls on newly elected Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal government to commit to investing in Canada’s public services and the workers who deliver the support millions rely on every day.

“No matter the crisis, public service workers are the backbone of our communities,” said Sharon DeSousa, PSAC National President. “Whether it’s keeping our borders safe, responding to natural disasters or supporting workers who have lost their jobs in the face of the unprecedented challenges we’re facing – they keep Canada running.”

We will be working closely with the new government – who is also the employer for more than 165,000 federal public service workers represented by PSAC – to ensure Canada continues to invest in a strong and stable public service to meet the needs of Canadians.

“We’re encouraged by Prime Minister Carney’s promise that there will be no deep cuts to Canada’s public service and his commitment to invest in Canada’s border security,” said DeSousa. “But capping the size of the public service in these uncertain times is the wrong approach. Our security is under threat from the Trump administration and Canada’s growing population will continue to need more support – not less.”

We will continue to hold this new government accountable and call on all federal parties to work together to ensure  they commit to strengthening Canada’s public services and supporting the workers who deliver them.

Investing in public services is an investment in Canada’s future. When Canada’s public service is strong, families, businesses, and communities thrive.
