PSAC shares in solidarity with Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge flight attendants who are engaged in a challenging round of bargaining with the airline, fighting against unpaid work, a long-standing injustice across the airline industry. On Wednesday, August 13, the Air Canada Component of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) representing over 10,000 flight attendants, served the airline with a 72-hour strike notice. In response, Air Canada issued its own lockout notice.
Airports will become struck workplaces
Flight attendants deserve respect, fair wages, and to be paid for every hour they work.
If a deal hasn’t been reached, as Saturday, August 16, at 12:59 a.m. (ET), all airports where Air Canada operates will be considered struck workplaces. Travel through these airports will be regarded as crossing a picket line. PSAC members are asked to make alternative travel arrangements until the situation is resolved. This applies to all flight itineraries involving departure from, transfer through, or arrival at these airports.
Any PSAC members who are contractually required to report to work at a struck airport should request safe passage through the picket line.
PSAC members are encouraged to support their CUPE colleagues by taking part in actions – in person and online, and of course, by respecting picket lines. To learn more about CUPE’s campaign to end unpaid work for flight attendants, visit unfaircanada.com
We stand united and will continue to share updates as the situation develops.
