Statement from Sharon DeSousa, PSAC National President, and Claudia Labonté, UPCE National President.
Our Union of Postal Communications Employees (UPCE) members are currently facing a challenging workplace climate. The recent government announcement on the future of Canada Post Corporation, combined with the national strike of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), has many members on edge. Your union – UPCE and PSAC – is here for you.
As we continue to support CUPW in their contract struggle and we recognize the attack on their bargaining rights, it is important to remember that your PSAC-UPCE collective agreement remains in force. If you have any questions about your collective agreement rights, please speak with your UPCE representatives.
UPCE has a long history with Canada Post. For over one hundred years, UPCE members have supported the delivery of postal services to our communities across Canada and for people in Canada. This century of solidarity continues: our work has evolved over time, and we want to be part of Canada Post’s future.
Canadians need and deserve a strong public postal service, one that is committed to serving rural and urban communities, including across Canada’s North. In this current economic and political climate, we must strengthen our public services and the benefits they bring to our communities. Our country needs a reliable and efficient public postal service from coast to coast to coast. UPCE members can help the Corporation achieve those goals, in solidarity with workers and with people in Canada.
UPCE and PSAC are working together to address the government’s announcement and what it means for members. We know that UPCE is part of Canada Post’s future, and we are advancing this position with both the Corporation and the federal government. The commitment and solidarity of UPCE members remains for you, Canada.
In solidarity,
Sharon DeSousa, National President

Claudia Labonté, National President
