PSAC donates to Alberta fire victims, encourages members to do the same

The Public Service Alliance of Canada extends its solidarity to the vast numbers of Albertans in Fort McMurray and surrounding communities who have been forced to leave their homes as wildfires advance and engulf their homes and businesses.

Following the Albertan tradition of extending support and solidarity to their neighbours, the PSAC’s Alliance Executive Committee (AEC) has already pledged $25,000 to the Red Cross. Several regions and components have also committed to showing their support. The federal government has promised to match all individual donations.

We recognize and applaud the heroic work of firefighters and frontline emergency responders and other public sector workers who have played such a pivotal role in keeping people safe. They are mobilizing an astounding number of public assets to evacuate tens of thousands of people, including from the local hospital.  They have bravely safeguarded the water system and other vital infrastructure.

The efforts of the Alberta government, coupled with the tireless dedication of thousands of volunteers from all sectors of society, has made this relief effort an example for all Canadian society.
