Our bargaining team returned to the negotiating table for three days during the week of December 12. We are all eager to reach a new collective agreement, and our bargaining team is working hard to negotiate improvements.
We spent the week discussing non-monetary issues common to both Field and Office units, including mental health in the workplace and the joint learning program (JLP). PSAC and Treasury Board representatives gave a comprehensive presentation on the JLP. They outlined the benefits to both the employer and the union, as well as to both managers and employees. These benefits include fostering better working relationships, opening lines of communication and building healthier workplaces.
We continued to press the employer on our key bargaining issues: hours of work, job security and term employment. We again posted the stickers in our bargaining room showing the excessive lengths of term employment for the employer’s team to see. The employer’s negotiating team felt the impact of the efforts by our members across the country to highlight the severity of precarious work at SSO.
