FB bargaining: Team raises student use and scheduling [1]

Using students to do the work of border service officers was a critical issue raised by our FB bargaining team when talks with Treasury Board/CBSA continued March 21-23. PSAC-CIU was particularly alarmed by remarks from CBSA President Erin O’Gorman who told a parliamentary committee, “I would say that our student BSOs become, to a large extent, our permanent workforce.”

Parks Canada: Almost a year since bargaining kicked off, team declares impasse [5]

The Parks Canada bargaining team had more than 5,000 members across the country top of mind when they made the tough decision to declare an impasse late last week. This decision follows nearly a year of bargaining with the employer, who has come to the table with no mandate to bargain, no monetary proposal, and no serious engagement on important issues our team has at the table. While the Parks Canada continues to stall, we continue to fight for a fair contract.

PA PIC report: Recommendations a step forward but fall short of inflation  [6]

The Public Interest Commission (PIC) report for the PA and Common Issues tables offers a pathway to make gains for workers, but still falls short of PSAC’s demands to reach a fair contract that keeps up with the rising cost of living.

CFIA: Employer tables concessions in response to PSAC proposals [7]

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) tabled unacceptable concessions when they met with our bargaining team January 31 to February 2. The employer's proposals would roll back provisions currently found in the collective agreement, including employment transition, hours of work, call-back pay, standby and reporting pay.

EB members: PIC report advances bargaining to next step [11]

PSAC has received the Public Interest Commission (PIC) report for the Education and Library Science (EB) group following hearings that wrapped up on December 13. Following the same pattern as the TC PIC report [12] and the SV PIC report [13], the report unfortunately does not provide clear recommendations other than a return to the bargaining table.
