From May 3 to 7, PSAC’s 2026 National Equity Conferences brought 400 members together from across the country. Indigenous, Racialized, Access, Pride, and Black Caucus members came to speak openly about the realities they face: systemic discrimination and racism, barriers to accessibility, underrepresentation in leadership, and inequities in hiring and workplace culture – and to push for change.
March marks both International Women's Day and Women's History Month, a time when workers at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) should be celebrating an estimated $15.9 million in pay equity adjustments to fix years of pay discrimination against women. Instead, these workers are being made to wait even longer.
March 8 marks International Women’s Day, a time to reflect on the progress women have made in the labour movement, and to push us forward towards where we need to go.
A Black member told me earlier this month that Black History Month often feels “too short for everything we carry and everything we give.” Their words have stayed with me as I hear similar reflections from workers across the country.
PSAC pays tribute to Dr. Beth Bilson, a leading legal scholar and chair of the federal Pay Equity Task Force, whose work helped build a system that puts the responsibility on employers and governments to take action to close pay gaps. PSAC continues to demand this approach in its pay equity work, making sure employers take responsibility instead of leaving workers to fight discrimination on their own.
More than 200 PSAC women from across the country came together in Toronto for the 2025 National Women’s Conference. The theme of this cycle’s conference was “Women United: Breaking Barriers and Building Futures”.

September 18 marks International Equal Pay Day.
PSAC is incredibly disappointed that Treasury Board is attempting to delay pay equity justice for workers in the federal public service by requesting a three-year extension [14] to post their final equity plan for the federal public service.
Today marks the 20th anniversary of the release of the Pay Equity Task Force’s report ‘Pay Equity: A new approach to a fundamental right [16]’, also known as the Bilson Report. The task force, mandated by the Government of Canada, made a series of recommendations to advance pay equity in the federally regulated sector.
As mandated by the Pay Equity Act employers are legally required to work with unions to develop pay equity plans. PSAC pays special attention to employment data to ensure our members’ human rights are respected, and at later stages of this process, will ensure that the realities and nuances of members’ jobs are taken into consideration to ensure that the pay equity analysis is based on complete and accurate information.
Treasury Board has asked the federal Pay Equity Commissioner to approve its request for three separate pay equity plans for the core federal public service.
