The Parks Canada bargaining team continued to hold the line and push for stronger working conditions during negotiations September 19-22, despite more than 20 concessions on the table from the employer that would severely impact workers.

PSAC-UCTE members who work for Transport Canada have critical responsibilities to ensure the safety of Canadians as people and goods move across the country, on land, at sea, and in the air. Our members take pride in their work, making sure that transportation safety standards are met. We are therefore very concerned that Transport Canada plans on contracting out some of this important work. This will include privatizing the testing required to license commercial pilots and aircraft maintenance engineers.

The Department of National Defence (DND) recently announced the retendering of the contract for facilities management services at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Goose Bay to Serco, a private sector contractor. While continuity is preferable over a different company, the new contract will cut approximately 30 jobs.
