Purpose of position: 

Under the general supervision of the Director, Communications, Political Action and Campaigns Branch, the Web Developer – Digital Communications is responsible for the development and the implementation of web properties and strategies to support PSAC’s communications, outreach and mobilization goals, directed at both its membership and the general public.

Qualifications: 

 

Education and Experience:

  • This position requires a post-secondary diploma in web development, web programming or a related field or a minimum of five to seven years related experience;
  • Prior experience working with a labour or political organization will be considered as an asset;
  • Deep expertise and proven track record in using the Drupal content management system as well as Wordpress and NationBuilder, mass email tools such as Mailchimp and data analytics tools such as Google Analytics.

 

Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with Web Applications and programming languages such as HTML, CSS, Javascript, JQuery and API’s;
  • Knowledge of search engine optimization, user experience (UX) best practices, and website content strategy;
  • Knowledge of issues affecting the union movement and PSAC members;
  • Knowledge of government decision making and of the Canadian political system;
  • A very good knowledge of digital media technology including software and hardware associated with deploying web properties.

 

Abilities:

  • Strong, sharp and personable writing style and excellent verbal communications skills.
  • Website graphic design, frontend user interface web development, cross-browser and mobile compatibility skills are an asset;
  • Ability to conceptualize and design a variety of communication materials specifically for digital channels;
  • Ability to develop content strategy and provide advice on website information architecture to improve website user experience;
  • Ability to remain current on emerging information technology trends;
  • Ability to plan and organize in order to meet deadlines;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate both orally in French and English.
