Service awards for long-term officers of the PSAC

The National Board of Directors has established criteria to govern the granting of PSAC long term service pins and a certificates.

The awards seek to recognize long-term officers of the union at any level who have continuously served the membership.

The criteria are:

  1. The pin and certificate will only be awarded to a person who was an active union officer in the 18-month period immediately preceding the June 30th deadline.

  2. A union officer, for the purpose of award determination, will include stewards within the Public Service Alliance of Canada.

  3. Continuous service may include varying officer positions generally without breaks in service of more than three months. However, the three months may be extended for just cause in circumstances where it was unrealistic to expect a nominee to hold a union position.

  4. Nominations should be submitted online.

  5. Applications for service awards may be sponsored by any segment of the Alliance but must be submitted through their respective Component or Directly Chartered Local (DCL). The Component or DCL will ensure enclosure of a complete service history.

  6. The Honours and Awards Committee will review all applications, advise the PSAC National Board of Directors (NBoD) each September of recommended recipients and following ratification by NBoD, forward to Presidents of Components or DCLs, the names of recipients within their Component or DCL and awards for presentation or distribution.


To be considered at the September NBoD meeting a Component or DCL a nomination must be submitted – complete with the endorsement from the Component or DCL – to the PSAC Executive Office by June 30th. Components and DCLs may require time to review nominations so earlier submission is advisable.
