Slow progress in negotiations between PSAC and SSO

Our bargaining team met with the employer in Ottawa from April 17 to 19, 2018.

Apart from holding discussions on issues common to the Field and Office units, we also held separate discussions for each unit, in order to properly deal with issues and proposals that are specific to each one. Although we still have a number of outstanding non-monetary proposals, the two parties worked hard and managed to reach an agreement on a number of issues. For the Office unit in particular, we signed off on Article 38 on Leave for Family Related Responsibilities.

RCMP CMs set to join federal public service in 2020

The government has announced that Royal Canadian Mounted Police Civilian Members will join the federal public service on May 21, 2020.

The ‘deeming’ of RCMP CMs was initially scheduled for April, 2018 but was delayed because of ongoing problems with the Phoenix pay system.

Acting RCMP Commissioner Daniel Dubeau believes the new deeming date will allow the government to stabilize Phoenix before RCMP CMs join the federal public service.

Phoenix: Quebec Court affirms federal public service workers well represented by their unions

A Quebec judge has ruled that the grievance process available to unionized employees in the federal public service is well equipped to deal with the fallout of Phoenix pay problems. The judge certified a class action lawsuit against the Government of Canada for two groups of employees that don’t have access to the existing process: casuals and students.
