Niqab in the public service – a non-issue

During the election campaign, the Harper Conservatives have stated that they will not rule out the ban of the Niqab in the public service.

A ban on any religious symbol in the public service would contravene our collective agreements and the Canadian Human Rights Act.

“Clearly a non-issue, this is just another cynical attempt by the Harper Conservatives to distract from what is really at stake in this election:  the reckless government cuts that have impacted millions of Canadians,” said Robyn Benson, PSAC National President.

“All Canadians have paid the price for this government’s failure. The public service has been diminished and demoralized for far too long. This election is an opportunity to change that,” concluded Benson.
