PSAC members have gathered at regional conventions across the country over the past two months to chart the path forward for our regions and elect PSAC’s Regional Executive Vice-Presidents, who sit on the Alliance Executive Committee and give a national voice to members.

Colleen Coffey has been re-elected by acclamation to serve as the PSAC Regional Executive Vice-President for the Atlantic Region. Colleen has been an active PSAC member for over 27 years. Over the course of her union activism, she played many roles from Secretary, Treasurer, Shop Steward, Chief Shop Steward and local President. She was first elected as PSAC Atlantic’s REVP at the 7th Regional Triennial Convention held in Saint John, NB on June 24, 2017.

A tentative agreement was reached on February 19 between members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada and the Halifax Transition House Association (HTHA) Bryony House. The terms of the tentative agreement will remain confidential until the members vote on it in the coming weeks.

Djimy states, “Having been raised in a dictatorship, I witnessed the disregard of human rights by people who were clinging to power at the expense of the well-being of the community. I promised myself that as I grew up, I would do everything in my power to improve the lot of my community.”

In a landmark collective bargaining victory, members at Saint John Airport (YSJ) secured the right to a defined benefit pension plan, ensuring employees have a stable income in retirement. Like many workers across the country, members at YSJ in Saint John, New Brunswick had previously seen their pension rolled back to a defined contribution plan which offers no guaranteed retirement income and shoulders employees with all the financial risk of their retirement investment.
