Purpose of position: 

Under the direction of the National President, and as part of a team of four political assistants, the Executive Assistant to the National President assists the National President, the National Executive Vice President and the Regional AEC Officers in the performance of their duties.

 

Qualifications: 

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the organization and structure of the PSAC and Components, labour movement and equity principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of office operations and procedure, telephone techniques and time management techniques.
  • Good knowledge of letter and report composition, spelling, grammar and punctuation in both French and English and of computer software applications including word processing, spreadsheets and database programs.

  • Ability to efficiently respond in a calm and effective manner to a variety of demands and projects;
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in English or French or in both official languages (according to the position’s requirements).
  • Ability to meet established deadlines.

  • Ability to coordinate information, arrangements and correspondence with minimum review.
  • Ability to organize and maintain complex record and filing systems.
  • Ability to type accurately at a speed necessary for completing documents as needed.
  • Ability to use office automation tools to prepare a variety of documents, reports and records.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and work well in a team oriented environment.
  • Ability to learn, retain and use technical terminology, equipment and computer applications.
  • Ability to remain calm in difficult situations and maintain mental alertness and stamina to perform routine and specialized duties for long periods of time.

  • Ability to demonstrate tact and discretion in preparing, disclosing and handling information of a confidential, controversial and sensitive nature.
