Environmental protection, cut

The Harper government has taken aim at environmental protection, slashing funding for conservation and restoration of landscapes, water and wildlife; monitoring climate change and minimizing threats from pollution. According to the government’s reports on plans and priorities, by 2017 it will have cut Environment Canada’s budget by 35.8% – $390 million – since 2010. During that same period, 21% of its workforce or almost 1,500 jobs will have been cut.
