Our bargaining team met with SSO during the week of May 1. The team started the week in caucus, where we had planned to review SSO’s proposals, but unfortunately the documents provided by our employer contained many errors and lacked clarity.

After pressure from PSAC, the government agreed to compensate federal public service employees, with tax problems caused by the Phoenix pay system, for up to $200 per year of tax advisory services. The claim and release form is strictly restricted to tax advisory services for the tax years 2016 and 2017.

The application process for the 2017 PSAC Scholarship Program is now open. The program consists of 14 scholarships for dependent children of PSAC members and 3 scholarships for PSAC members who will be attending university, college or a recognized institute of higher learning on a full-time basis. Applications are due June 23, 2017 and scholarships will be granted in the fall for the 2017-2018 academic year.

Our bargaining team met with the Canada Post Corporation on April 11 and 12, 2017. We spent some time questioning the Corporation about their intent with regard to their proposed overhaul of our current Job Security provisions. More than 500 PSAC members from five equity groups and their allies attended the union’s triennial National Equity Conferences in Toronto last month to raise awareness, deepen their knowledge and strategize around issues of discrimination and equality. With the theme “Equality at Work”, the five-day gathering was the second time PSAC held the conferences for all five equity groups simultaneously in one location, allowing for the cross-sharing of issues and perspectives among members from racially visible, GLBT, Aboriginal, women and disability groups and communities.

Our CAPI and CATI bargaining teams met with SSO March 17, 2017, to open this round of bargaining and exchange our initial proposals. Regrettably, the employer’s team was not even half there, which we told SSO was very disrespectful to us and to the bargaining process. We expect the employer will not continue to demonstrate this attitude as we pursue bargaining.
